PROFESSIONAL TOOLKIT: Casting
After having prepared some basic character traits, and having a rough idea of the scene both on paper and in my head, it was time for casting.
We went in to the room, set up and i had a chat with Lauren (1st AD) and Dowan (Script) to go over the people that we would be seeing today.
Our first applicant was Ryan, and after directing him to the room we did the following:
We went in to the room, set up and i had a chat with Lauren (1st AD) and Dowan (Script) to go over the people that we would be seeing today.
Our first applicant was Ryan, and after directing him to the room we did the following:
- Break the ice: ask him if it was easy to find the place
- Start of with some initial thoughts and actions
- Get him to do a rough pass of the actions.
- After that give him some freedom to suggest ideas
- Make slight adjustments to conclude on the activities
- Do a second pass, whilst filming.
- Give adjustments
- Do a final third pass, whilst filming.
After Ryan had left, me, Lauren and Dowan discussed what we liked and what we didn't like, and shared notes.
Unfortunately, Ryan was the only applicant to appear out of the 4 we were expecting.
This was a lesson learned: Always cast as many people you can from as many different sources you can
This was probably one of our biggest mistakes as we only cast applicants using StarNow.
Lastly, one more applicant requested another day for auditioning as he was unavailable on the audition days, so we arranged a skype conversation/audition.
Even though this method seemed a bit strange at first, it seemed adequate as the same methods used above worked (substitute filming with recording the screen)
Even though we only have two auditions at the moment, it's still going to be a tough decision...
