PROFESSIONAL TOOLKIT: Overviewing the Production

As the shoot day approaches it is more apparent that we need to get things done as fast as possible.

Today during our build session after our EX1 induction i sat down with the main team members to discuss important aspects of the project.

First big issue was that after seeing the technical tests for the set extension, the gallery looked a bit too narrow, so i asked the AD to tell grips to push one of the walls slightly to the left in order to get a bigger space (it may seem massive, but on camera after the set extension the set looks more closed off)

The slightly wider set.

Then i asked Dowan if he had any specific character traits in mind before i started giving direction for those. Then we talked about making a script extract ready for our auditions on Monday.

Lucy, the production designer, briefed me on the materials and the processes that would need to happen in order to get the set up and running, and then took set measurements to assist her.

Talking to Rob about the lighting as he's the DOP, we were thinking of maybe using two lights instead of one for the spotlight effects, but Rob suggested that it would be an unnecessary step in our already heavy lighting plot.

Since we need to confirm our room booking for the auditions, i asked Julia (our producer) to email Rosie for a confirmation of that.

Julia, Rob and Dowan have also volunteered to help me with the Auditions on Monday.

Lastly we were going to do some technical tests, but Rob pointed out that it would be redundant since it would be exactly the same as the previous one. Therefore i told Lauren (the AD) to dismiss everyone on set.

After realizing that being the director is quite a big role in the project, i decided to have a quick look at the following books in order to help me out a bit, and i should be reading them over the weekend:

Unknown

Some say he’s half man half fish, others say he’s more of a seventy/thirty split. Either way he’s a fishy bastard.
