MAPS & JOURNEYS: Psycho Geography - Making sense of what i filmed

Having filmed the task, now it came down to make sense of what i had.

The footage itself consisted mostly of shots of litter thrown on the sidewalk, on the roads, in the grass, my legs as i was walking and a couple of nature shots.

As it was hard to somehow create a script around this, i decided to spontaneously plunge straight in to editing. After about an hour i had this:

It seemed that i had created someones journey through an area full of trash and litter, that even at some point obstructs his journey through nature. Towards the end we get an abrupt end. Maybe the traveller could not handle the litter any more? Maybe it's a metaphorical "dead-end" to the current litter problem. Overall it was quite interesting that all of this came out of just a walk...

After the main edit was done, i decided to do a quick sound mix and music mix to fill in the sound gap, as this was shot silent.

I added an ambient guitar track to build a bit of tension, and to help the pace, and sound effects to enhance the visuals.

Lastly i color graded and made some last minute changes to the piece using DaVinci Resolve

This is the final piece:

Overall i liked the fact that i left mostly the entire project to chance, and i've learned that something can come out of nothing.

Reflecting back though, if i had a bit more time i would have removed the music and just kept the sound effects, cause it seems to overdramatize it a bit too much...
