REFLECTIONS: Brief and Screening #1 Thoughts

During our first lesson with Rosie on Reflections, we were given the brief of what we were going to to for this term. It will be a series of photographs and a digital video project.

After the brief, we started with a series of screenings. These were:

"La jetée" by Chris Marker

I personally really liked this film, it's idea and how it is presented to us. It's fragmented nature of using black and white stills seem to compliment its overall aesthetic and theme. Overall i enjoyed watching this one, and it made me start thinking about what memories really are, and how fragile they are...

"Watching Paint Dry" by Jo Ann Kaplan

Even though this one is low tech, it's kinda interesting to see how the artist depicts all of her own old age characteristics.

"Blue" by Derek Jarmans

This one is interesting... the entire film is a blue solid color, and although at first this may seem strange, knowing that the maker of it was slowly dying and losing his vision from AIDS kinda puts it in perspective. Although i understand why this was done, i do believe that some people still may be having a hard time understanding this...

We also watched some very interesting experimental documentaries, but at the moment i can't remember the titles to reference them here (that's why you need notes folks...). As soon as i manage to find them i will update this post.

Some say he’s half man half fish, others say he’s more of a seventy/thirty split. Either way he’s a fishy bastard.
