REFLECTIONS: Lighting Workshop 2 and Conclusion
During our second lighting workshop, we were asked in our groups to recreate a scenario and light it appropriately. The scenario we got was "Night Time Interior - Someone alone, and then three friends playing playing cards".
At first we used a practical light as the basis, and as a scene element to create plausibility. Then we added a readhead with a diffusion filter from the general direction of the practical light to enhance the effect. Lastly we added a smaller pepper light to back left on the camera to fill in the shadows. We were thinking of adding in a backlight, but we didn't think it would be plausible for the scene. Plus it created a nice low-key atmosphere for the scene.

And since we wanted to test this out in a real life situation, to see if our continuity was correct we filmed a silly little film to demonstrate it (warning, this is just a lighting test and does not make sense in any other context):
